Meaning
A resource unit is a collection of suggested teaching & learning activities organized upon a given unit. It is a resource for teaching. A resource unit is a systematic and comprehensive survey, analysis and organisation of possible resources (eg. Problems, issues, activities, bibliographies & the like.) which a teacher might utilize in planning, developing and evaluating a learning unit. It is prepared by a group of teachers for the use of many. It is a reservoir of teaching content, objectives, learning experiences, experiments, outdoor activities, tools of evaluation, assignments & even references. Resource units contain a collection of more objectives, learning activities, evaluation techniques, and bibliographical entries than can possibly be used by a given teacher for a particular classroom of pupils.
Importance
· Resource units are the basis of teacher participation in curriculum program.
· It is an instrument to be utilized in promoting teacher growth.
· Function of resource unit is to suggest learning experiences, teaching materials and teaching procedures that the classroom teacher can use in all stages of the learning unit.
· Resource unit construction is a form of pre-planning.
· Several learning units can evolve from a resource unit.
· Parts of resource unit can be employed to help the teacher handling individual differences.
· Resource unit suggestions are consistent with today’s research in child growth & development.

Steps in the preparation of a resource unit
1.      Title
2.      Introduction – briefly indicate the social, scientific & pedagogical significance of the unit.
3.      General objectives
4.      Content analysis – Content is analysed in depth & elaboration & presented in the form of a series of paragraphs.
5.      Activities – General & specific methods of teaching, as well as activities of various kinds meant for teachers & pupils are decided.
6.      Teaching materials & sources – Material for teachers use & pupils use are mentioned & listed.
7.      Evaluation procedures – The evaluation procedures suitable for the unit have to be described.
8.      Editing
